Leona Louise Lewis (born 3 April 1985) is a British musician, singer also known as actress, and activist. She was raised in the London Borough of Islington and took classes at Croydon's BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. Lewis was noticed by the world as she was selected for the third series on The X Factor 2006 and received a contract worth PS1,000,000 with Syco music. The winner's single that was a cover of the song of Kelly Clarkson "A Moment like This" recorded 50,000 downloads in thirty minutes and peaked at #1 for four weeks. In February 2007 Lewis agreed to sign a five-album deal in the United States with Clive Davis's record label, J Records. The artist's popularity grew with the album release of her first Studio album Spirit (2007), which was certified 10x platinum in the UK and became the fourth best-selling album of the 2000s , and also one of the best-selling albums in UK chart history. Based on the Official Charts Company, Spirit is the best-selling debut album of female singers at the turn of the century. The lead single, "Bleeding Love", spent seven weeks at number one in the UK and was the highest-selling single of 2007. The song was also the highest-selling song in the US in the year. Lewis won the Billboard Best New Artist Award following year. Echo is her second studio album. She also wrote the track "I I See You" to accompany Avatar. Lewis's single "Collide" is an impromptu collaboration with Swedish DJ Avicii and she released Hurt the EP. It was her debut extended performance. Her album Glassheart, her third studio effort, Glassheart (2012), marked a new creative direction for Lewis who draws inspiration from dubstep and electronic music. Lewis began recording music to her first Christmas album on the Glassheart Tour, which took to the stage in the mid-2013 timeframe. Christmas, with Love was released later in the year. The album's first single, "One More Sleep" came in at the third position within the UK. Lewis was who is a British female solo artist, was the first female artist to reach the top 5 with eight songs. The record is higher than Olivia Newton John's seven-year record.
